Genesis 2: 2-3

 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts. By the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

And so creation is completed. The biospere we know as earth is set up to sustain life. The Lord is set for to be the light of the word. All life is created and roaming the heavens and the earth. God rested. Not because He needed to but as an example to us.  Our bodies and souls need rest.  And not just rest but a time to celebrate what He had created, through us, in us, for us.  I time to let Him know we know who He is. I time to reflect and realize that all things are His and through Him we have complete access to those things.  God is also preparing for what is to come.  For this is the last of peace on the earth for some time.  Soon very soon mankind was going to turn God's amazing creation on its ear.

 Make sure to take time to rest and reflect before going out into the world "to tackle" it.  Prayer is our most amazing, powerful and underrated weapon.  We must remember to keep it at the ready.  We do not have to bow our heads and fold our hands together to be in prayer. We do need to show respect and be humbled by who we are talking to.  Amazingly we use prayer as our last option. It takes practice to make it foremost in our lives.  If we can train our minds, body and soul to the importance of prayer our lives would change exponentially.

Exodus 20:8-11

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.

Exodus 20:8-11

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who [a]stays with you. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.

Exodus 31: 17

17 It is a sign between Me and the sons of Israel forever; for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, but on the seventh day He ceased from labor, and was refreshed.”

 Hebrews 4:4

For He has said somewhere concerning the seventh day: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”;

Hebrews 4:10

10 For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.
So my biggest problem isn't the fact that I get interrupted and miss days, weeks month, though it is annoying, no my biggest problem is that I get frustrated when I can't get to something, like this blog, and I let it get to me. I let Satan sneak in and attack.

So here's the deal.  I am always trying to get through the bible and I always get sidelined.  And then I feel like I need to start from the beginning.  But that really isn't true. God isn't about time but about truth and loving His word.  So, I will still be doing the walk through the bible and I will do it when I can. I will try and be consistent but life happens between these posting and I will ask for you patience as I traverse through not only the scripture but through life as well. Blessing to all. Mary

Genesis 1:26-31

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29 Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; 30 and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that moves on the earth which has life, I have given every green plant for food”; and it was so. 31 God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

Who: God and Man
What: Creation
When: In the beginning on the sixth day
Where: Everywhere however man was put in the garden
Why: Because He's God
How: Omnipotence does what omnipotence does. (okay that was tongue and cheek)

So God made man in His image (notice the use of our), in His likeness. So who is God. God is love.  Can you image a word full of people that love with everything they are. Funny how sin, how having a choice took that from us, fractured it, sometimes making it unrecognizable in us. Yet it is still there, but it's our choice to use it or not. We all have within us the ability to show and accept love.

Notice also that we may rule over the fish, birds, livestock and wild animals, and don't you just love this.  We get to rule over the bugs. Or we would have except for one thing freedom of choice. And we chose badly.

The God blessed us or all of us that were there at the time. So Adam and Eve. He gave us our first command,“Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

 Then God told us. “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; 30 and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that moves on the earth which has life, I have given every green plant for food”

I actually never noticed this until I took Precept studies that before the great flood everything on the earth was a vegetarian.  I will get into this more after the part of the flood.  I believe that the flooding might have hurt the nutritional value of plants, well that and the sin brought about flesh eating.  But that is when God put enmity between us and all the animals of the world and we had fear and killing added to our lives.

And the last thing did was to pronounce it not just good but very good. And then it ended the day that is. Although the good would not last long either.

Genesis 1: 24-25

And on the sixth day... The day before the sabbath, the day before rest. Everything is done except for this. God has set up the earth so that all can function. We are given food, drink and the ability to make shelter.  Maybe there was shelter...under trees, in caves.  So is this when Satan came about.  I always wonder. I tend to think of him as a creepy thing (pun intended). Though really the serpent in the garden had legs. Otherwise God would not have removed them as punishment.

So here is our sixth day. The day God has carefully planned and created everything else around.  This is the creme de la creme. The cherry on top.  He must do one more thing first. The very last creation before he makes the first man.  He makes all the land creatures.  I find it funny that the only thing singled out here is the cattle.  When he made the sea creatures. He wanted to point out the leviathans. The great sea monsters of enormous size.  And now the cattle. Why are these two singled out? (me I have no idea) But I would like to know why.  I find it interesting that it's the great animals the children seem to love. Every time I've taught a lesson on dinosaurs, boy or girl, it didn't matter, the children were always entranced.

Genesis 1:24-25
24  Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth after their kind”; and it was so. 25 God made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good.

21 All flesh that moved on the earth perished, birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind; 22 of all that was on the dry land, all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died.

Genesis 8:19

19 Every beast, every creeping thing, and every bird, everything that moves on the earth, went out by their families from the ark.

Proof that we did not fear anything on the earth nor them us. And a hint as to the damage the flood did to the earth... for why else would we go from eating on plants to animals.  I wonder if there was and effect on the nutrition in the plants when it flooded.

Genesis 9:2
2 The fear of you and the terror of you will be on every beast of the earth and on every bird of the sky; with everything that creeps on the ground, and all the fish of the sea, into your hand they are given. 3 Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant.

Jeremiah 27:5

5 “I have made the earth, the men and the beasts which are on the face of the earth by My great power and by My outstretched arm, and I will give it to the one who is pleasing in My sight.

Genesis 1:20-23

Everything God did in creation was with great care and significance. Even if we don't know what it is.  I am always amazed when I was studying, geology, biology and other sciences how wonderfully everything acts together to make our earth inhabitable.  What reason God had for filling the waters and air first. I don't know, but I do know that it must have been important.

20 Then God said, “Let the waters teem with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of the heavens.” 21 God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” 23 There was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.

Day 4-- the creation of "stage" lights. The moon, sun and stars

Day 5-- the creation of animals of air and water and the commandment to multiply and fill the earth.

Psalm 104:25-28
25 There is the sea, great and broad,
In which are swarms without number,
Animals both small and great.
26 There the ships move along,
And Leviathan, which You have formed to sport in it.
27 They all wait for You
To give them their food in due season.
28 You give to them, they gather it up;
You open Your hand, they are satisfied with good.

Genesis 1:14-19

This is an amazing passage in so many ways.  First God created the sun to govern the day and the moon to govern the night.  The moon works our tides. Bring about the ebb and flow that keeps our earth alive and thriving. The sun and moon also help the plants grow, die and fertilize the ground so more plants can grow.

My favorite part though is the signs and seasons.  God gave the wise-men a way to find the baby Jesus in the sky. So day one He set His son as savior, day four He sets up the star to follow. He sets up the night sky and the day sky so mariners could traverse the oceans so wanders could find their way.  Even so the slaves of our country could follow the northern star to freedom. And much more.

14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. 16 God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also. 17  God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 and to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good. 19 There was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.

And again God saw it was good.  Notice how everything is still good.

Genesis 1:11-13 part 2 of day three

Some of the riches soil we can find is underwater. Deposits of plant matter and waste make it that way.  Of course at the time the first waters were separate there were no plants or waste from animals. But plants do need water.  Since the land was separated from the water and immediate God put out the vegetation, I assume the soil was still wet.

Water is very important to all living things and God created it that way.  Our earth, our biosphere was created by an amazing Creator, someone who wanted things to work a certain way and would function according to certain standards. The need for water, food, shelter was built into us. These all work to help us understand who God is.

11 Then God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them”; and it was so. 12 The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good. 13 There was evening and there was morning, a third day.

Psalm 65:9-13

New American Standard Bible (NASB)
You visit the earth and cause it to overflow;
You greatly enrich it;
The stream of God is full of water;
You prepare their grain, for thus You prepare the earth.
10 You water its furrows abundantly,
You settle its ridges,
You soften it with showers,
You bless its growth.
11 You have crowned the year with Your bounty,
And Your paths drip with fatness.
12  The pastures of the wilderness drip,
And the hills gird themselves with rejoicing.
13 The meadows are clothed with flocks
And the valleys are covered with grain;
They shout for joy, yes, they sing.

Wahoo. I think I've finally figured this out

Now to fix everything, catch up to where we should be and then get back on track.  Thanks for you patience.

Thursday, August 9, 2012

Just an update. I haven't forgotten about doing this series. I am just trying to work out some bugs. I won't have time to actually work with the old post to fix them until this weekend. That is when I will also do the make up post that I have missed the last three days. Sorry for any inconvenience. Hopefully by next week I should have at least the post part of this figured out. Thanks for you patience.

Note to readers.

I am having issues with Paragraphing. How I write and edit is not how it is showing on the blog. I will be trying to fix this problem this week. Sorry if it makes it difficult to read

Genesis 1:9-10

The third day of creation is divided up into two parts first the making of the dry land and then the creation of plants that would supply the food for all the creatures to be created.  (remember no living animal or person ate meat until after the flood. (read Genesis 1:29-30 and 9:1-3).

And of course the creation of the tree that would give man a choice that would bring about mankinds downfall.

However for today lets talk about the land.

The first day was light
The second day was the separation of the waters and the expanse between that is called heaven
The third day starts with the creation of Land.

Genesis 1:9-10 (New American Standard Bible)
9 Then God said, “ Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. 10 God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good.

So we have a new layer or I should say an edition to the third layer. We have waters then and expanse then waters in one place and land in another. You ever notice how everything God creates is good. So what happened. Thought I will get into this more in chapter 2 the answer is rather simple. Sin.  Everything upon the Earth changed the very minute Eve was tempted.  The moment she even considered listening to a creature that she was suppose to be in charge of, she let him instead be in charge of her.  Funny how easily we give others power over us and that changes more then just us. It changes our world.  But let me get back on track. We are still in the everything is good time of life. The only time that everything was perfect on the earth was in Chapter one of the first book of the bible. Interesting don't you think.

2 Peter 3:5
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
5 For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water,

Jeremiah 5:22
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
22 ‘Do you not fear Me?’ declares the Lord.
‘Do you not tremble in My presence?
For I have placed the sand as a boundary for the sea,
An eternal decree, so it cannot cross over it.
Though the waves toss, yet they cannot prevail;
Though they roar, yet they cannot cross over it.

Psalm 24:1-2
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
The King of Glory Entering Zion.
A Psalm of David.
24 The earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains,
The world, and those who dwell in it.
2 For He has founded it upon the seas
And established it upon the rivers.

Psalm 95:5
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
5 The sea is His, for it was He who made it,
And His hands formed the dry land.

There are so many place in the bible that remind us again and again who made us, who made where we live, who made the waters, the land, the animals the trees.  And yet we still think that things are beyond Him. That He can't possible love us because we did this or that. He can't know how awful we are. He can't possibly want me to love him or here.  Got news for you He does, He does and He most certainly does.  Does he know how hard it is? Of course He does. That's why we pull into Him, we cling to Him.  His power of creation doesn't stop a creation.  He made this land we stand on, however it is up to us to stand on it. To declare our faith and to stand for Him.

Genesis1: 6-8

Genesis 1:6-8

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

6 Then God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” 7 God made the expanse, and separated the waters which were below the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse; and it was so. 8 God called the expanse heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.

The first day we have the Father, Light and Holy Spirit and could it be the creation of the "dark side"  It was dark before and he brought light. But in creating the need for the light there must be dark.  Did you know people could actually get sick from not having enough light or darkness in their life.  There is a need for all the elements God created at the beginning to keep us going. Like a person designing an aquarium or in this case a biosphere, God put in everything we would need to not only survive but to make choices.

I like looking for little things in scripture like what nouns are plural and what it might mean. What verb is used and what was it's origin in Hebrew or Greek depending on the Testament.  In verse six we find "waters"  and the separate of waters from waters.  What does that mean?  In verse seven he makes an expanse. Something that separates waters from waters. Space?... Some definitions to think about.

2 Peter 3:5

5 For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water,

I confess reading this makes me chuckle. I always think of the Original Star Trek and the "crystalline entity" calling humans ugly bags of mostly water. Because we are mostly water.  There is so much on this earth that need and are made up of water.

Job was such an amazing man. I can only hope to have such faith. Our first chapter of the Bible shows us not only the Beginning but the true power of God and the book of Job reminds us of it.

Job 37

37 “At this also my heart trembles,
And leaps from its place.
2 “Listen closely to the thunder of His voice,
And the rumbling that goes out from His mouth.
3 “Under the whole heaven He lets it loose,
And His lightning to the ends of the earth.
4 “After it, a voice roars;
He thunders with His majestic voice,
And He does not restrain the lightnings when His voice is heard.
5 “God thunders with His voice wondrously,
Doing great things which we cannot comprehend.
6 “For to the snow He says, ‘Fall on the earth,’
And to the downpour and the rain, ‘Be strong.’
7 “He seals the hand of every man,
That all men may know His work.
8 “Then the beast goes into its lair
And remains in its den.
9 “Out of the south comes the storm,
And out of the north the cold.
10 “From the breath of God ice is made,
And the expanse of the waters is frozen.
11 “Also with moisture He loads the thick cloud;
He disperses the cloud of His lightning.
12 “It changes direction, turning around by His guidance,
That it may do whatever He commands it
On the face of the inhabited earth.
13 “Whether for correction, or for His world,
Or for lovingkindness, He causes it to happen.
14 “Listen to this, O Job,
Stand and consider the wonders of God.
15 “Do you know how God establishes them,
And makes the lightning of His cloud to shine?
16 “Do you know about the layers of the thick clouds,
The wonders of one perfect in knowledge,
17 You whose garments are hot,
When the land is still because of the south wind?
18 “Can you, with Him, spread out the skies,
Strong as a molten mirror?
19 “Teach us what we shall say to Him;
We cannot arrange our case because of darkness.
20 “Shall it be told Him that I would speak?
Or should a man say that he would be swallowed up?
21 “Now men do not see the light which is bright in the skies;
But the wind has passed and cleared them.
22 “Out of the north comes golden splendor;
Around God is awesome majesty.
23 “The Almighty— we cannot find Him;
He is exalted in power
And He will not do violence to justice and abundant righteousness.
24 “Therefore men fear Him;
He does not regard any who are wise of heart.”

I'm thinking this is a bit chopping but I confess I almost forgot to write it and it's late. so forgive  the choppiness.

I find the creation story so amazing. And I love reading other cultures creation stories and then trying to piece them back into the bible. They fit remarkably well.  You can see how people adjust them to fit what they wished to believe. It's like following a game of Telephone. The retelling of the creation story with the sin of disbelief thrown in.

To recap.

Day one we have the light of the world
Day two we have an expanse made between the heavens.

Genesis 1:3-5 (New American Standard Bible)

3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. 5  God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.

    Genesis 1:3 : Ps 33:6, 9; 2 Cor 4:6
    Genesis 1:4 : Ps 145:9, 10
    Genesis 1:4 : Is 45:7
    Genesis 1:5 : Ps 74:16
    Genesis 1:5 : Ps 65:8

The first day and the first night. The first separation of dark and light. The first Day and the plan start to work to set up a biosphere with a way to grow. A way to survive what is to come. Because if we remember nothing else, we must remember that all things happen because God allows it to.  Here is our beginnings our start, our salvation.

I already spoke of verse three but felt the need to include it in the Day 1 of creation.

Day one of month one of the first year of a plan that will bring us all to our Revelation.

Psalm 145:9-10
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
9 The Lord is good to all,
And His mercies are over all His works.
10 All Your works shall give thanks to You, O Lord,
And Your godly ones shall bless You.

Isaiah 45:7
The One forming light and creating darkness,
Causing well-being and creating calamity;
I am the Lord who does all these.

Psalm 74:16
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
16 Yours is the day, Yours also is the night;
You have (A)prepared the light and the sun

Psalm 65:8
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
8 They who dwell in the ends of the earth stand in awe of Your signs;
You make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy.

Genesis 1:2

Day two--second verse

Genesis 1:2

2 The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters.

Who looks like our second character has appeared. Part of the trinity of course The Holy Spirit is in verse two.  We have the first two verse and the first two parts of the trinity. God and the Holy Spirit. Guess who's in verse three?  Well I'm not telling until tomorrow.

What? We see the earth without form, dark and full of nothing.  I don't remember if I mentioned it yesterday but I hope you noticed that there were heavens and earth.  so more than one heaven.  and again you see the s so more than one surface of water.

I started to write a poem a few years back I never finished. But it shows that the trinity was there from the beginning. I am skipping a head just a little bit. or maybe I should just put verse three in too.

Genesis 1:3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.

Guess I'm doing two verse today.
We have the Creator of everything, The light of the world and the spirit that moves over water.

Our three in one.

Let see if I can remember them all. I have a couple of friends who are trying to memorize the entire bible.  I must say I would love to do that and to be honest I have never tried.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters.  The God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light.

Now I know the three were there from the beginning. So what is the light. The light of the world. I believe that was when God knowing we would foul things up created our salvation. The light of the world.  Before man was created the Lord didn't really need to be our light, but if He was going to create creatures in His image but give them free choice there needed to be a way to save us from ourselves. So...

Our Who is now Father, Light of the World and the Spirit of God.  What? is the creation of a world that has everything in place that we will need to become who God wishes us to be. He would have to create a way for us to have choice. So not everything perfect.  He would have to make it so we could live, breathe, choose and fumbled.  When "in the beginning" Where? right here.  Why? Because He was God and He said so.  How? again because He's God.

And no I'm not going to skip tomorrow because I did two today.  At least I hope I don't.  I'll be back.

Blessing Mary

Apology and start of Genesis 1

Sigh!! Epic Fail....

So much for keeping up with this. I keep trying to do better and of course I am going to try once again. But with so few showing interest it's hard to want to come here and write. Which of course brings about a catch 22 because if there's nothing new here why come to read it. Well I must apologize and again I am going to try and do better. I have decided to see how long it takes to go through the bible one verse at a time (although I might have to do it one section at a time to get better meaning.

So I will start at the beginning. I am hoping that things will get started up here and I can dump Facebook.

However we will just have to wait and see....

So let's get started I prefer the NASB. But you are welcome to use your favorite version.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Well everyone had to start somewhere and God being God began at the beginning. Genesis is a book of firsts. And before anything could begin it had to have a place to start and so we have the heavens and the earth and we have God. You can't look for a list of Character here there is only one. God.

What happened. creation. When in the beginning, where. um right here. Where did He stand exactly I have no idea and even if there was evidence "in the beginning" I'm thinking the flood would have removed it. Why. The best answer I can give you is because He's God. How? Well that's another God question. I have no idea but I am sure it had a to do with the fact that He was omniscient, omnipotent and whole lot of other omnisomethings. The most important thing is that He did with a word and it was so... He spoke and it became real. We would not be here but for him. And this is the beginning of all of us. Our beginning... our story. Come with me into the book that shows what makes us who we are and what can give us eternal life. We begin here. This is who we are.

Welcome the true "greatest story ever told".

Friday, May 18, 2012

Yeah I know I should start this on January first.  Why not wait? Well because I figure God has waited on me long enough. It's time for me to step up and step out in He who has given me everything and whom keeps me going every day.  So here is Day one for me. I hope you can follow along. Come to the Beginning....

Memory Verse.. "For this commandment which I command you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it out of reach... But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may observe it."--Deuteronomy 30:11,14

Reading for week 1....Main reading Genesis 1-11 and if you have time read Job... I am doing one reading before I get out of bed and one before going to bed at night.  However if you are doing a bible study or have little ones. Do what you can, when you can.  Go at your own speed this isn't a race. It's a communication with God and He might just start you with one verse at a time take it dwell on it and make it your own.  Oh and yes those annoying genealogies are important.  But more on that later...

Oh those of you that like books. I am using a study called Cookies on the Lower Shelf  Putting Bible Reading Within Reach Part 1: Genesis -Ruth.  by Pam Gillaspie

First start with reading the story. Remember this isn't a race, or a you have to put yourself in it and get something out of it every time type thing. Read it like a love letter or a beloved book. There is a story here. The history of our world yes but an amazing love story too.  God made this earth for us.  Isn't that just amazing.  Yet here I am getting ahead of myself.  Let start today with reading about how the world began.  This is a book of beginnings. Our first two chapters are about our perfect world. How absolutely wonderfully perfect it was made. So many amazing first have happened. The first animals, the first namings, the first sunset and sunrise. Read absorb and let it fill you with awe.

Consider the way you think (this is from the book)

What successes or failures have you had in reading the Bible?
What characterizes your reading and/or studying
Have you encountered any hang-ups along the way? If so, what kinds?
What has worked for you?
Are you bringing any fears or reservations to this study?  If so, what are they?
What do you hope to gain through this study?

Record Key words and phrases (words that are repeated, phrases that if removed would change meaning)
How does the bible start?
Who is/are the main character(s)?
What do they do? (look at the action words)?
Describe the creation as it is at the end of chapter 2. What characterized it? what flaws if any?
What did God create on the sixth day?What instructions are given by God.  remember to look at the verb (pay attention to words like do not and go forth)

if you have time Read Gen 1:1, John 1:1 and John 1:14
Who was involved at creation?  compare these verses.

So I am going to try and do better at this blogger thing.  I have decided to work with you on a study.  I am hoping you will join me on a journey of going through God's word in a year.  Please if something comes up and you can't do something one day or even if the year gets messed up don't stop.  If it takes you two or three or four years instead of 1 just keep trying.  The bible is an amazing book, having many adventures, mysteries and romances.  It has everything your favorite books have. Just come along with me and you will see.

We are not superior to anyone

I have been reminded today that all of us have a tendency to look at each other and say well at least I would never do that!  And I am sure that is true.  But what we forget in our superiority of mind in choosing our “I would never do”s  is that though our choice of poison may not seem as bad as someone else, poison is poison and it takes you down the same road.  That road is called Death.
Now that road made not lead to a physical death, but it can lead to a blockage or a hindrance that keeps us from being completely in touch with our God. Sin is sin and as Roman’s 3:10 states “There are none righteous no not even one.”  I can say oh but I would never do that however, since I am a sinner I have sinned and I will do it again.  (One of those little things you would rather not but can always count on happening.)  I’m not saying we shouldn’t hold each other accountable or that we shouldn’t bring to light the sins of others.  There are times for that is necessary.  It’s biblical to call other’s attention to their sins. However, we need to remember that we are sinners also.   A proud spirit will sooner or later be brought to light when after time and time of God showing “it” to us, we refuse to bring it to light and give it up and over and o God.  Think of the movie stars and other public figures that have been “caught” and even died in their sin.  If we don’t fall to our knees on our own, God will surely bring us to our knees in the end.  Some of us, He loves us enough to show us early (much to our chagrin and sometimes humiliation) so that we can “fix” the problem, others don’t get that opportunity and are brought to our physical end.
Think of your darkest thought, the ones you want no one to see. If you aren’t seeking God’s guidance to how to be delivered from them, then God just might decide to help you “out.”  Question…How badly is your secret going to be if it comes out while you are doing everything in the world to keep it quiet.  Nothing is hidden forever and no sin is good no matter what “it” may teach you.

You can either find joy in the things that God has given you or drown in the sadness of not getting what you want.

Pride

Why is where were going more important than the person next to us on the road? Why is our business more important then theirs? Why are we in such a hurry to get where we are going that we forget that our time on the way is just as important maybe even more so. There are people all around us, desperate for Good news, scared, lost, or just plain in need of a friend and we zoom past them like they don't exist. Every, absolutely everything including the death of an innocent man on a cross so long ago has worked together so you can be exactly where you are at this minutes. So I'm wondering what are you doing about it? What are you thinking right now? Are you thought about what God wants you to be doing or are you wrapped up what you "need" to do or what you are doing at the moment. Take a second and just stop and pray and ask God so what now?? He is listening and He will be so glad to tell and show you. All you need is a open heart and head.

Thanking God

If you finished it thank God
If you got an idea that worked thank God
If you remembered thank God
If you were given it thank God (and thank whomever gave it to you if you know)
If lucked into it (it wasn't luck) thank God
If you were able to save for it thank God
Nothing absolutely nothing comes to us except from the grace of God. So make sure no matter what is, before your pride sneaks in to try and take credit remember it never would have been if not for God.
