Psalm 62

 God Alone a Refuge from Treachery and Oppression.

 on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 12:14am
For the choir director; according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.

1My soul waits in silence for God only;
From Him is my salvation.
2He only is my rock and my salvation,
My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.
3How long will you assail a man,
That you may murder him, all of you,
Like a leaning wall, like a tottering fence?
4They have counseled only to thrust him down from his high position;
They delight in falsehood;
They bless with their mouth,
But inwardly they curse. Selah.
5My soul, wait in silence for God only,
For my hope is from Him.
6He only is my rock and my salvation,
My stronghold; I shall not be shaken.
7On God my salvation and my glory rest;
The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God.
8Trust in Him at all times, O people;
Pour out your heart before Him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah.
9Men of low degree are only vanity and men of rank are a lie;
In the balances they go up;
They are together lighter than breath.
10Do not trust in oppression
And do not vainly hope in robbery;
If riches increase, do not set your heart upon them.
11Once God has spoken;
Twice I have heard this:
That power belongs to God;
12And lovingkindness is Yours, O Lord,
For You recompense a man according to his work.

Psalm 39 The Vanity of Life.

For the choir director, for Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.

1I said, "I will guard my ways
That I may not sin with my tongue;
I will guard my mouth as with a muzzle
While the wicked are in my presence."
2I was mute and silent,
I refrained even from good,
And my sorrow grew worse.
3My heart was hot within me,
While I was musing the fire burned;
Then I spoke with my tongue:
4"LORD, make me to know my end
And what is the extent of my days;
Let me know how transient I am.
5"Behold, You have made my days as handbreadths,
And my lifetime as nothing in Your sight;
Surely every man at his best is a mere breath. Selah.
6"Surely every man walks about as a phantom;
Surely they make an uproar for nothing;
He amasses riches and does not know who will gather them.
7"And now, Lord, for what do I wait?
My hope is in You.
8"Deliver me from all my transgressions;
Make me not the reproach of the foolish.
9"I have become mute, I do not open my mouth,
Because it is You who have done it.
10"Remove Your plague from me;
Because of the opposition of Your hand I am perishing.
11"With reproofs You chasten a man for iniquity;
You consume as a moth what is precious to him;
Surely every man is a mere breath. Selah.
12"Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear to my cry;
Do not be silent at my tears;
For I am a stranger with You,
A sojourner like all my fathers.
13"Turn Your gaze away from me, that I may smile again
Before I depart and am no more."

Proverbs 13 Contrast the Upright and the Wicked

Proverbs 13 Contrast the Upright and the Wicked

 Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 12:02am
1A wise son accepts his father's discipline,
But a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.
2From the fruit of a man's mouth he enjoys good,
But the desire of the treacherous is violence.
3The one who guards his mouth preserves his life;
The one who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
4The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing,
But the soul of the diligent is made fat.
5A righteous man hates falsehood,
But a wicked man acts disgustingly and shamefully.
6Righteousness guards the one whose way is blameless,
But wickedness subverts the sinner.
7There is one who pretends to be rich, but has nothing;
Another pretends to be poor, but has great wealth.
8The ransom of a man's life is his wealth,
But the poor hears no rebuke.
9The light of the righteous rejoices,
But the lamp of the wicked goes out.
10Through insolence comes nothing but strife,
But wisdom is with those who receive counsel.
11Wealth obtained by fraud dwindles,
But the one who gathers by labor increases it.
12Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
But desire fulfilled is a tree of life.
13The one who despises the word will be in debt to it,
But the one who fears the commandment will be rewarded.
14The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life,
To turn aside from the snares of death.
15Good understanding produces favor,
But the way of the treacherous is hard.
16Every prudent man acts with knowledge,
But a fool displays folly.
17A wicked messenger falls into adversity,
But a faithful envoy brings healing.
18Poverty and shame will come to him who neglects discipline,
But he who regards reproof will be honored.
19Desire realized is sweet to the soul,
But it is an abomination to fools to turn away from evil.
20He who walks with wise men will be wise,
But the companion of fools will suffer harm.
21Adversity pursues sinners,
But the righteous will be rewarded with prosperity.
22A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children,
And the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.
23Abundant food is in the fallow ground of the poor,
But it is swept away by injustice.
24He who withholds his rod hates his son,
But he who loves him disciplines him diligently.
25The righteous has enough to satisfy his appetite,
But the stomach of the wicked is in need.

Christmas mad libs

your house is a mess
the holidays bring you stress
You can't decorate your home
and the urge to do so won't leave you alone
just pull out some mad libs and have a little fun
working some Christmas magic with a pun

or in regular speech my house was a mess we were redoing the kitchen and to offset the craziness or redecorating and the inability to decorate for Christmas I did mad libs every night and here they are

"Selecting a Tree"

No Christmas season can be really tall unless you have a green tree in your hall.  If you live in a city, you will see many vacant trees filled with hundreds of acres for sale.  If you live in the country, you can get your own truck right out of the forest.  Go out with a car and a fish, and when you see a sharp tree you like, you can dig it up and plant it in a bug.  Then you can use it for 2 million years.  To make sure your tree is fresh, shake the branches and see if the lakes fall off onto the bush.  And make sure the tree is very blue.  Nothing looks worse than a puce  tree.  Just follow these directions and you can have a perfectly beautiful amoeba in you front room for weeks.  Remember, poems and Mad Libs are made by fools like Harry but only Sally can make a tree

"Decorating a Tree"

Many people decorate their Christmas car on Christmas Eve.  Last year Dan had a wild party and everyone helped swim the tree. Mary brought tinsel and bulbs. And Alex brought lots of fresh spaghetti and candy turtles to put on the tree. The most important decoration, of course is the string of colored electric dogs.  A few dozen black lights make any tree look fat.  And most stores sell round, sparkly trucks and little red balls to hang on the branches.  But the hardest decoration to pick is the one that goes right on top.  Once that baby is up, you know the brilliant season has officially started.  Of course, if you are too shiny to have a tree for Christmas, you can decorate you bed or hang vegetables on your chimney.  Then the neighbors will say, "holy rock nematode!"

I'd rather be fat

Seriously folks. I was born in Arizona. lived 8 years in Texas and 7 in Oregon. And I am always amazed at how the "fat people" are more discriminated against that even races. I think it is one of our greatest tragedies to underestimate or treat people badly because of race, color, creed or body type. I don't know if it's sinful anger or righteous anger, but it cannot be right to make fun of people around and in public where it will get back to them. someone always knows someone. or some unthinking slob walks past and says oh yeah isn't that the so so that she/he was talking about. It disturbing hurtful and so unchristian it makes my blood boil. I get so tired of people thinking that they are better than someone else because they are more fit, dress better, have a better job, is in society. I grew up with one of the most racist nastiest women as a mother and I guess if you don't grow up watching it tear people apart maybe you don't know how much your "little jokes" hurt and can actually get people to think lowly of themselves maybe even commit suicide. Now the actions they take may be their sin but you have sinned too. God does talk about us not going to excess about stuff, but he is even more firm about us loving each other. So I'm thinking a lot more love and a lot less humiliation (making fun of other, etc.) We are coming to a time in all our lives when things are getting tense and we will be judged by the world more and more. Heaven forbid they be right about us because of this. We are suppose to be the very imagine of God to unbelievers. and I don't think God makes fun of anyone. Do you?
