The third day of creation is divided up into two parts first the making of the dry land and then the creation of plants that would supply the food for all the creatures to be created. (remember no living animal or person ate meat until after the flood. (read Genesis 1:29-30 and 9:1-3).
And of course the creation of the tree that would give man a choice that would bring about mankinds downfall.
However for today lets talk about the land.
The first day was light
The second day was the separation of the waters and the expanse between that is called heaven
The third day starts with the creation of Land.
Genesis 1:9-10 (New American Standard Bible)
9 Then God said, “ Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. 10 God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good.
So we have a new layer or I should say an edition to the third layer. We have waters then and expanse then waters in one place and land in another. You ever notice how everything God creates is good. So what happened. Thought I will get into this more in chapter 2 the answer is rather simple. Sin. Everything upon the Earth changed the very minute Eve was tempted. The moment she even considered listening to a creature that she was suppose to be in charge of, she let him instead be in charge of her. Funny how easily we give others power over us and that changes more then just us. It changes our world. But let me get back on track. We are still in the everything is good time of life. The only time that everything was perfect on the earth was in Chapter one of the first book of the bible. Interesting don't you think.
2 Peter 3:5
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
5 For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water,
Jeremiah 5:22
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
22 ‘Do you not fear Me?’ declares the Lord.
‘Do you not tremble in My presence?
For I have placed the sand as a boundary for the sea,
An eternal decree, so it cannot cross over it.
Though the waves toss, yet they cannot prevail;
Though they roar, yet they cannot cross over it.
Psalm 24:1-2
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
The King of Glory Entering Zion.
A Psalm of David.
24 The earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains,
The world, and those who dwell in it.
2 For He has founded it upon the seas
And established it upon the rivers.
Psalm 95:5
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
5 The sea is His, for it was He who made it,
And His hands formed the dry land.
There are so many place in the bible that remind us again and again who made us, who made where we live, who made the waters, the land, the animals the trees. And yet we still think that things are beyond Him. That He can't possible love us because we did this or that. He can't know how awful we are. He can't possibly want me to love him or here. Got news for you He does, He does and He most certainly does. Does he know how hard it is? Of course He does. That's why we pull into Him, we cling to Him. His power of creation doesn't stop a creation. He made this land we stand on, however it is up to us to stand on it. To declare our faith and to stand for Him.
